‘Social branding’ business SelfMade nets $8M in Series A

The New York City-based startup connects users with “professional image experts and social media strategists” via an application, helping individuals manage how their brand and personal identity are presented across the web. The lead investor was FirstMark Capital. Celebrities, influencers and large brands have used these types of tools for years, but SelfMade aims to make them accessible to anyone. The service is currently in private beta, but plans to launch later this year. [Read more]

Averon’s eSIM mobile identification system secures $8.3M

The system is dubbed “Direct Autonomous Authentication,” and it aims to be a frictionless, secure mobile identity verification standard. The Series A financing round was led by Avalon Ventures. Averon has reportedly been working on its system for two years, using real-time mobile network signals from a user’s iPhone and is SIM or eSIM chips for authentication. [Read more]

Ammbr, Verif-y partnership to focus on self-sovereign identity in emerging markets

The agreement will use Ammbr’s blockchain-based multi-frequency mesh network — which supports Wi-Fi, LTE-U and other wireless technologies — to grant access to the Verif-y digital identity system. Together, they plan to offer both buyers and sellers in emerging markets real-time and secure access to rusted digital identities and credentials. Users in remote areas can pay for internet connectivity with Ammbr through a dedicated app on their smartphone or PC. [Read more]

Idemia, NFL’s 49ers partner for expedited security checks via TSA Precheck

The San Francisco sports franchise has entered into a multi-year partnership with Idemia to use its IdentGO system for identifying attendees and expediting security. The arrangement will promote and implement identity and security devices at the home of the 49ers, Levi’s Stadium. Once in place, travelers verified through the TSA Precheck system will have access to shortened lines and quicker screenings, just like at an airport In addition, biometric-based technology for both fan experiences and security will be implemented in the future.
