January 26, 2017

Last week, the full-service blockchain company, The Bitfury Group, in collaboration with international law firm Covington, launched the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC).

According to their website, the GBBC is to “bring together the world’s leading businesses and business leaders to highlight the latest innovations and advances in Blockchain technology”. Given the interest pouring in from business leaders and entrepreneurs alike, GBBC is well-positioned to become a valuable education forum for a controversial technology that is often praised and criticized equally.

With founding members comprised of a diverse number of industries including technology, law, education and finance – the GGBC intends to play a vital role in connecting the many disparate industry verticals that currently occupy the blockchain conversation.
Along with their launch announcement, the GBBC released a list of thirty-three founding members comprised of global business leaders and innovators representing twenty-five countries. The list includes three notable members of the identity community – Mariana Dahan, Sr. Operations Officer at the World Bank, Vinny Lingham, CEO of Civic, and Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the former President of Estonia. Mariana was recently recognized as one of OWI’s Top 100 Leaders in Identity for her outstanding work with the World Bank’s ID4D initiatives and the 2030 Development Agenda.
